But how did we get here? The answer is simple: Everything you're about to read was designed to lead to this moment. The theft of $79 trillion, the destruction of unions, the surveillance state, the dumbing down of education - it was all building toward the day when American troops would patrol American streets while Americans cheered.

Look at what Russia is: A country where a handful of oligarchs own everything while the population lives in poverty and fear. Where the media lies constantly and the people believe it. Where anyone who challenges the system disappears or dies. Where elections are theater and the real decisions are made by billionaires.

Trump and his allies are making plans to use the Insurrection Act - a law that gives the president nearly unchecked powers to use the military as a domestic police force.
The Insurrection Act is a blank check for dictatorship: The Supreme Court ruled in 1827 that the president alone decides whether invoking it is justified; the courts may not review that determination.
Translation: Trump can declare any protest, any opposition, any criticism as a 'conspiracy' and send in the Marines. And no court can stop him.

Powell's plan was simple but brilliant:
The plan worked immediately: In 1971, there were only 176 companies in Washington DC. A decade later, in 1980, there were 2,445 companies, 9,000 lobbyists and 60,000 trade association employees.
On August 3, 1981, 13,000 air traffic controllers went on strike, and Reagan fired 11,345 of them, sending a clear signal to corporate America that it could declare open season on organized labor.
In 1970: Over 380 major strikes
By 2010: Only 11 major strikes
Reagan also made sure you'd never hear the truth on TV or radio. In 1987, Reagan's FCC repealed the Fairness Doctrine, which required TV and radio stations to present both sides of important issues.

Just six weeks after September 11, a panicked Congress passed the USA PATRIOT Act, vastly expanding the government's authority to spy on its own citizens.
On December 31, 2011, President Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), codifying indefinite military detention without charge or trial into law for the first time in American history.
What this means in plain English: The government can now arrest you, hold you forever, and never give you a trial. Obama promised he wouldn't use this power - but Trump has no such qualms.
In 2024, Florida's Escambia County school district pulled five dictionaries, eight encyclopedias and 'The Guinness Book of World Records' among over 1,600 books for review.
